That quote from Isaiah is the title for the global document on the Synod that was issued from the Vatican late last month. It is a synthesis of the summaries that have come in from all of the bishops’ conferences around the world, and as the title implies there is a strong desire present for a church that is more welcoming and inclusive, much as we heard in our own parish listening sessions last March. The next step is for groups of clergy and laity to come together at the continental level (for the US this will be a meeting with Canada) to prioritize the needs that they see for their part of the world in the Global document. That feedback will come to two meetings of bishops at the Vatican, one in 2023 and one in 2024.
