On this day…

April 8, 2021 – One thing about prayer and worship is they don’t keep time like my watch or my calendar. I’m reminded of that every day this week, because the Preface to the Eucharistic Prayer says that we praise God “on this day above all . . . when Christ our Passover has been sacrificed.”  In the language of the prayers, every day in the Easter Octave is Easter Day itself.  For eight days.  It’s a concept that we Louisvillians are at least kind of familiar with.  After all we have a “week” that ends on the first Saturday in May that contains at least 21 days.  Some things are so wonderful and amazing and overwhelming and joyful that they just don’t fit into time.  Not into the time we have, and not into Time as in time itself.  And while Derby might not qualify at that level, the death and resurrection of Christ absolutely does.  And so let’s let Easter stretch our concepts of time. Until every day is Easter.  Not April 4, 2021.  But that day that the tomb was found empty, and Christ, no longer bound, could be everywhere.
