Radical Welcome
What does it look like to be a radically welcoming church? Cardinal Robert McElroy of San Diego has an excellent article about that in the Jesuit magazine America this week. He raises issues that it would normally be rare for a Catholic bishop, much less a new cardinal, to raise. He talks about the need to bring people who are on the periphery of the church and society into the center. This includes the once taboo topic of ordaining women. The until recently not talked about topic of LGBTQ people’s place. And the long-debated place of the divorced and remarried.
Last week I wrote about the question of becoming parishes truly welcoming to our youngest people. What would it look like for us to be truly welcoming to our most marginalized? It’s worth a read. Thanks.
